I HAVE NOT POSTED SINCE JUNE, oh my effing god. THAT IS HOW POOR MY INTERNET HAS BEEN, LJ. MONTHS OF APPALLING INTERNET SERVICE. GDI INTERNET. Obviously it always chooses the best times to work, like, say, when I have to go get ready for a staff leavers' meal in a couple of minutes, but HOLA, HERE ARE SOME QUICK WORDS.

- FIRST AND FOREMOST: dear lovely [livejournal.com profile] help_japan winners: I am so sorry your fics are not up yet! I am leaving for university in just under a month, and I promise they'll all be up by then. Life/the abject crapness of my internet has conspired to make me seriously, appallingly late at delivering them, but they'll all be up by September 24th if I have to chain myself to my laptop to do it. Thank you all so much for being so endlessly patient, you are clearly the best people. ♥

- Speaking of university, I AM GOING BACK TO IT. jfc I am seriously looking forwards to getting out of my tiny Northern field town. I am off to study Film and Television, and if I can swing it as joint honours when I get there, American Studies too. WHICH MEANS, excitingly, that either this time next year or the year after, I should be spending six months to a year in the USA. I AM LEGIT THE MOST EXCITE. Still can't quite believe that someone actually gave me a place to study movies for some years. MOVIES. THERE IS A WHOLE MODULE ON FANDOM. shdfhdg how have I swung this. \o/

- If my internet holds up (side-eying the fuck out of it, tbqh), I want to make more words about Doctor Who coming back when I have more time, but hdfghgs. COME TALK TO ME ABOUT THAT.

- ALSO I HAVE BEEN TO THE HOME OF THE GLORIOUS [livejournal.com profile] laliandra and forced her to bake pony cookies for me while I a) did nothing and b) actively got in the way, because I am an excellent house guest. In return, she did not kick me off her sofa and then sat me down to watch the first episode of White Collar and the first two episodes of Suits. (And then, when Lal had to go out briefly the next morning, she returned to me frantically reading what had been posted so far of the coffee shop au on the Suits kinkmeme. #bestlifechoices) MORE ON THIS WHEN I DO NOT HAVE TO GET OFF THE BED IN ZERO MINUTES.

- STEELHANDS ARRIVED shfhjsdgf. For those of you who have somehow not yet read Havemercy or any of its sequels, this is the fourth book in the series by Jaida Jones (yes, SHOEBOX JAIDA) and Danielle Bennett and in the opening book, it boasts exiled gay magicians, an elite dragon flying corps and MAGICAL MECHANICAL METAL STEAMPUNK DRAGONS. Steelhands is the fourth book in the series and my need to read it is not unlike my need to consume all the chocolate on the planet, so. I am in the middle of rereading the series before I start it though, and I'm currently in the middle of Shadow Magic and CAIUS CAIUS CAIUS BASTION GREYLACE, COME TO MEEEEEEEEE.

ahhhhh god, I have missed LJ. COME ON THE FUCK ON INTERNET, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.

How have you all been? ♥

and also I have been writing this TSN big bang, oh god, but today we are not speaking of it. *pokes word doc with a stick*

ahjsgfhj I am so behind on everything. Fic! Comments! Emails! Applying for uni accomodation for September! Packing! Renewing my passport! SO MANY THINGS. AND YET. INSTEAD OF DOING ANY OF THAT, here is an lj entry instead! My life choices continue to be excellent and productive. #who let me be a human being

Fic-wise, I'm aiming to get the first of my [livejournal.com profile] help_japan fics (ALL SO LATE, OH MY GOD, MY ENDLESS, ENDLESS APOLOGIES EVERYWHERE) up by Saturday, and then the TSNBB drafts are due relatively soon, I think, so there's that, and then more help_japan fics, and then ugh hopefully at some point I will stop being so rubbish? ANYWAY. I may have to chain myself to the laptop and stick on Write or Die at some point, but I WILL NOT BE BEATEN BY FIC.

TV! In a move that is entirely and completely [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith's fault, I have started watching Stargate Atlantis. Elizabeth Weir owns an alarming portion of my interest in this show, I have to say -- I've seen the first four episodes so far, and on so many occasions she's said something I have just thought. Like, I'd be going "huh, okay, plants, well, I'm sure that makes the set more decorative even though this city's been deserted for years" and then she'd go "can we lose the ten thousand year old dead plants?". UGH BB I WAS DOOMED TO LOVE YOU. Okay, and you know how there are shows/films etc that you try to avoid because you have the sinking feeling that they could eat your soul? No? I mean, that could just be me, but earlier this year I was all "I WILL NOT WATCH TSN, I HAVE GLIMPSED THE FUTURE AND THAT WAY LIES MADNESS" - I clearly didn't listen to myself, and look how that turned out - and for actual years I have been avoiding all the Stargate shows, and - aekjghfs ffs. SGA kind of combines an actual ton of Things that are Relevant to my Interests - settling/surviving in a new place! Snarky/secretly super brave/super clever scientist! Equally snarky soldier! Women being badass all over the place! UGH UGH FUUUUUU SGA YOU CANNOT HAVE MY SOUL, I NEED IT.

um though I mean, fic recs would be welcomed. ;________; I have lost control of my life.

so also I'm super behind on Game of Thrones but I have been watching it ) I hear the most recent episode is all kinds of splamtastic? ugh I really need to catch up fast. And then I need to read the book! agjksf things.

With that wall of caps aside, let's talk about DOCTOR WHO. otherwise known as: River Song is my queen. SPOILERS for the mid-season finale )

also what the hell is this hiatus, that does not happen on British tv. MORE WHO NOW, PLEASE.

ALSO also, of the over-used alsos, I've been getting back into using twitter - procrastination! I need all the ways to do that - and I'm mooging. What are your twitter naaaames?

Here is another bitty post! \0/ \0/ #moog makes excellent life decisions.

- third Spanish exam on Thursday! At this point my revision to fic-writing ratio is not so much in revision's favour, so that's tomorrow sorted out.

- I have watched this an obscene number of times, but my thoughts on River Song are for another time. The short version goes like this: SHE IS MY QUEEN.

- relatedly, I am so unbelievably beyond excited for new Who next weekend. IT FEELS LIKE IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME. ahgfjhsgdj Nine was my Doctor but Eleven is my favourite, if that makes any sense? Let's not go into how I was 14 and shipping Doctor/Rose like it was my job, but, you know, that happened. I AM JUST GLAD I DID NOT READ TWILIGHT AT THAT AGE, BECAUSE YOU KNOW I WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THAT. I am essentially a sham of a human.

- I always feel like a bit of a twat when I talk about fic I'm writing, but a couple of people have been nice enough to ask when the next part of BAKERY AU is coming up (YOU ARE ALL LOVELY), so: I am working on it right now! Part three is currently ~18,000 words and maybe half done. This would be less tricky if the half that was done was the first half, but it is not. ~excellent life-decisions~ There is an awful self-indulgent possibility that it might end up being twice as long again. I AM SO SORRY, IDEK WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON, NOTHING I HAVE EVER WRITTEN HAS BEEN THIS LONG BEFORE. ANYWAY, the short version of that nonsense is: I am working on it! It won't be up this week, but maybe the middle of next week? I am going a bit mad trying to keep it all in my head when I have to do other things, and not just bore everyone I talk to rigid by talking at them when I'm trying to work bits out.

- ALSO, if anyone speaks Portuguese, is there any chance I could run a few lines past you? I DON'T WANT TO BUTCHER THE FEW BITS OF THIS LANGUAGE I AM USING, AND I AM SLIGHTLY SIDE-EYING BABELFISH. ajhgfhsdgfj why do I do these things. I don't speak Portuguese and I know nothing about code.

- on a similar note, I am so beyond amazed by the lovely comments people have been leaving, and I want to reply to all of them, because ajshfjhsdgf. I have a few extra shifts in the next couple of weeks, and the exam this week, but I AM DEFINITELY ON THAT. <33333 A huge thank you to everyone who has commented, or read it at all - this would definitely not have been as fun to do without you all. I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BAR.

- also, I have a document on my computer saved as "bakery au cuts", which is, cunningly, where I shove all the bits I've cut out (yes, it is stupidly long and I have cut stuff out, I am that ridiculous, etc etc) in case I want to use them again later in the fic, or they just weren't working at all, and that is ~5000 words. HERE IS A BIT FROM THAT THAT WAS CUT FROM PART TWO, because I don't see it going back in the fic, and, well, I feel guilty about having a wip and not updating it for a while. FEEL MY GUILT.

sweet on you cut scene, NSFW, ~250 words )

- OH OH ALSO, I SAW AND LOVED RIO AT WORK THE OTHER DAY. I missed the last twenty minutes because my shift ended, but I WILL SEE IT ON THURSDAY. Oh god, it is so lovely I thought I might die. I had to come home and buy the soundtrack. Let me take you to Rio, Rio. fnnnnnnnnng.

OKAY, I think that is it. One day I will be here to post something of slightly less ridiculous quality, but apparently today is not that day. This post feels so self-indulgent I slightly want to go ostrich-face and hide in the sand forever. I NEED TO TALK TO SOME FOOD ABOUT THIS.
mooging: (Default)
DUDE OKAY SPOILERS FOR DOCTOR WHO: THE END OF TIME (PART TWO) IN THIS FIC. SPOOOOOIIILLLEEEERRS.

That said, happy new year!

Apparently I didn't cope particularly, er, well with that Doctor Who episode (My mother popped her head back in my room fifteen minutes after it ended and told me to stop crying. I threw a tissue at her.) Also apparently, my way of coping with that is to write some nonsense fic? I don't even know. I haven't written fic for months, and this is what happens? Pssh. Please accept my hearty apologies.

Title: tell me what you're looking for
Rating: PG13
Fandom: Doctor Who
Word count: ~1500
Disclaimer: SO NOT MINE IT IS RIDIC. The BBC/people who are not me own everything.

Hey, also, SPOILERS.

Several memorable occasions present themselves, actually. )

I have spent the last few days having my brain eaten by Havemercy, the first book by Jaida Jones ([livejournal.com profile] ladyjaida, she of Shoebox notoriety) and Dani Bennett ([livejournal.com profile] danibennett). Most of you have already experienced me metaphorically shoving this book at your faces, but I felt compelled to make a post about it, because, OH MY GOD.

Also, you all need to read it as of yesterday. Here is a summary I wrote, ganked from a comment in [livejournal.com profile] sophieisgod's journal:

Moog-style summary, no spoilers past the set-up for the novel, so, like, the first chapter? )

TL;DR: SHORT VERSION - GAY MAGICIANS AND METAL DRAGONS. READ IT NOWWW. It takes a bit longer to get into than some books do, but this is because you are immediately introduced to four different characters who have four different ways of looking at the world, and knowledge about the world, and so the first few chapters are quite heavy on the confusion/world-building factors, but, honestly, it is so good that that doesn't seem to matter.

AND ROYSTON IS MY FAVOURITE.

READ ITTTT.

A big thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] twicetheheart31 who has been joining me in writing epically long comments about this book, and to whom I say BALFOURRRRR, because I am re-reading it now and HIS GLOVES. Oh, hey, do some of you not know what I'm talking about? READ THE BOOK.

No, no, I will not stop talking about this book until everyone I know has read it.

Moving on: icon meme time! I have two of these to do, and another cold, wth body, and so this seemed like the right day to play.

That one that was floating around a while ago, but I Am Slow - apparently - and also I like looking at icons. )

And this one too:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

[livejournal.com profile] miss_atom gave me these to talk about. )

That was a lot of words about nothing! Well done good werks to me. Here are some miscellaneous words:

- Today, in an effort to provide my cold-ridden self with some good noms, I made some banana bread, only I modified the recipe to include pecans and dairy-free chocolate chunks, and it is indeed good noms. NOM NOM NOM.

- I am currently enjoying the benefits of having an 90 day free introductory period to LoveFilm, which I am abusing by using it to watch things I just wouldn't pay money for and also indulging in the fact that I am apparently entirely ridiculous and currently only want to watch ridiculous things. What I have at home right now: The Rage in Placid Lake, Wild Child and Mulan. OH YEAH, I'M COOL.

- I am pretending that if I don't think about the exams, either they won't happen or I won't freak out. Either of these two options is an acceptable outcome.

- HAVEMERCY, EVERYONE, GO AND READ IT. The paperback version comes out in July, and so does the sequel, jkadajhdjkg, I am so excited.

One last meme, edited because I have done this one a freaking zillion times, and you don't want to hear the same thing from me, like, again:

Comment on this entry, and I will:

1. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, a word etc.
2. Tell you something I like about you.
3. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
4. Rec you something on the internets to go and look at.
5. In return, you must can post this in your LJ, if you feel like procrastinating too.

- Let me know if you comment which (if either, or indeed, if you choose both) meme you'd like to play along with.

RIONA JUST DID A LITTLE DANCE ON THE SOFA RIGHT NEXT TO ME

By which I mean, hello, I am at the house of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] rionaleonhart. (Those of you who also have her friended will be aware of this. Possibly this will have something to do with the insane entry we made in her journal at We Should Have Been Asleep o'clock last night, but there we go. For those of you have been spared this, you are spared no longer! It is here.)

ANYWAY THAT IS NOT WHY I AM POSTING. I apologise whole-heartedly to you poor long-suffering people who are friends of both me and Riona, and are members of [livejournal.com profile] derrenbrownfic, because this will now be the third time you have seen this announcement, but NEVER MIND, this apparently is worth pimping the hell out of in all possible locations.

[livejournal.com profile] rionaleonhart and I are co-writing an epic and sprawling fic about the amazing time-travelling adventures of Derren Brown as the Doctor's companion (yes, really), and we have just posted the first part in this fic's BRAND NEW COMMUNITY, [livejournal.com profile] andtimetravel.

You can find the first section, In Which Derren Discovers That Doctor Who and Pokémon Are Not Quite As Fictional As He May Have Imagined, here

SHUT UP, RIONA REALLY LIKES POKÉMON, OKAY. MOST OF THE POKÉMON WORDS ARE HERS.

Possibly there may be a sea-serpent involved. You'll just have to read it to find out more about that (totally worth it).

IN WORDS THAT ARE NOT ABOUT [livejournal.com profile] andtimetravel, and which are also slightly redundant if you read that entry I linked to at the start of this post, we have been watching copious amounts of Merlin (with a bonus [livejournal.com profile] reipan - er, she was in the room with us, not on the television, I should point out) and also playing ridiculous video games - FINAL FANTASY XII AND WE ♥ KATAMARI WHAT WHAT WHAT AM I EVEN DOING WITH MY LIFE - and it has all been brilliant. This is despite British Rail's best efforts to not allow me to get here, as the train I was on spectacularly failed to remain working and we were all kicked off at some ridiculous station that was not where I wanted to go, and then graciously allowed to get on another train that was going where I wanted, but it had the unfortunate disadvantage of having people from four different trains travelling on it, and so I had to stand up with my bags for an hour and a half, ajdjadjkaskja FAIL BRITISH PUBLIC TRANSPORT. And then, and then, it got me to where I had to legitimately change trains too late for my ticket to work, so I had to buy another one. ANGER. But I am here now, and it is awesome ([livejournal.com profile] andtimetravel [livejournal.com profile] andtimetravel [livejournal.com profile] andtimetravel) so that's all right.

What we are going to do now is go into town and make faintly embarrassing purchases. What I love about the internets is that 'faintly embarrassing purchases' loses all kind of terrifying sinister and/or sexual connotations and instead means WE ARE GOING TO BUY ROBIN HOOD AND MERLIN DVDS, LOLOL WE ARE SUCH CHILDREN.

(RIONA, PLEASE STOP PROOF-READING THIS JOURNAL OVER MY SHOULDER, OKAY, GO AND WRITE MORE RUBBISH ABOUT POKÉMON)

In conclusion: [livejournal.com profile] andtimetravel, and I will be back from the land of Riona tomorrow.

O flist, I have a query for you:

Does Lent begin on Ash Wednesday, or the Friday after? I remember a big debate about this in one of my Religious classes during my GCSEs and not actually paying any attention to what was decided. SO I TURN TO YOU.

ANYWAY. Here are some videos for your faces ♥
