Earlier today, I was going to make a post about how I was feeling miserable, and had been for several days. This had something to do with all the things I'm looking forward to this summer are things I'm looking forward to, as in not happening right now. Added to that, I appear to be stuck in a wonderful body-image / self-esteem funk of doom (I get into these from time to time - I mean, it's omnipresent, but it gets more severe sometimes, you know?). Blah blah blah blah weight blah blah blah face blah blah blah everything, but! There is a but!

Anyways.

I bought the dvd set of Cagney and Lacey last weekend. Now, see, Cagney and Lacey was my first fandomfandom, before I actually knew what that was. It was before the X-Files. Before Ellen Ripley, actually, and that's going waaaay back.

And I still love it, with a fiery passion. It's cheesy, yes, from the eighties, yes, cop drama, yes, but it's just so wonderful. It was the first programme with two women as the leads, first programme with two women in professional, demanding jobs with lives and a friendship, and it was the friendship that drove it and made it so successful. Like everything, I watch it for the characters and Christine Cagney and Mary-Beth Lacey...I don't know, they just own my heart.

Chris more, though. She is flawed and she knows it, she's ambitious, selfish, driven, gorgeous and completely insecure. She's immature, she's vulnerable, she's hot-headed, she's sarcastic and oh my God, there are no words for how much I love the woman. She was the first character, first person really, to make me think that I could get to where I wanted, do what I wanted, be the person I wanted to be if I just worked at it, and she, God, I don't know, I just adore her.

I'm sorry to ramble at you about such a random topic. My heart is swelling with love for my eighties girls, and this was the closest outlet to hand.

And do you know what bites? ITV3 is showing later episodes, that the BBC never got round to showing, and my Freeview has decided that it isn't going to show ITV3 anymore. *headdesk*

It's Valentine's Day. This usually means it is time for me to shun the world and embrace the Mars Bars. Today, it means that I am going to give you a picspam of five fictional couples that have meant something great to me.

And to all of you wonderful people on my friends list, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! You are all lovely and brilliant! *hands out cookies*

Screw Valentine's cards. Have a picspam with nonsensical ramblings instead!

Yes, you did read that right. A picspam. From me.

Try not to faint!

8 Femmes. A French film about 8 women in a house and the only man is found dead. To say that plot takes a backseat would be mis-leading but slightly accurate, because instead of developing into some taut 'who-dunnit' film, we get a mad musical in which every woman gets their own song and dance, each of which reveals a bit more about that woman.

Add to that some gorgeous costumes, make-up and hair (shut up, these things are clearly important) and some stunning, wonderful actresses such as Isabelle Huppert, and you have a perfect film. I may possibly have some bias towards certain ladies or moments. Not that this will be noticable in the caps at all. Noooooo. Haaa.

And it's pretty, and people speak French (so I think a couple of pictures have subtitles on) and there are lovely lesbian overtones.

There are 80 caps under the cut. Dial-up people, I am sorry!

8 Femmes - many, many pictures. Dial-up people bewares. )

Caps by moi. Also, I swear the world does not want this picspam to come to light; as I was five from the end (of the 80!), my right-click stopped working, my internet started flickering and the music I was listening to stopped playing. *headdesk*

I made it work though. I am a super person!

Jack Gwen Watchingness

1x03 - Ghost in the Machine

Look, I am very sorry to all you non-Torchwood friends-list people, but this show is eating my brain. So it has come down to 'Moogie makes Torchwood posts' or 'Moogie esplodes'. And really, at least click the lj-cut and look at the pretty that is Jack, because...because...there's hot gun-teaching-lack-of-regard-for-personal-space angsty-Jack under the cut. And therefore, yaye.

Also, lots of my ramblings about the most recent episode! Um, definite spoilers for 1x03, but maybe 1x02 and 1x01 as well, because I can get on a roll yet I forget what happened when. I'm tired and Jack is too pretty. He is melting my brain.

'From where I'm standing, all the right curves in all the right places.' )

All caps by [livejournal.com profile] marishna, all slightly odd photoshop colouring on the caps done by meeeeee.

In conclusion, Torchwood = good. Jack = sex. Moog = sleepy.

I fail at updating. I really, really do. I meant to do a big Sigourney Weaver picspam to say farewell for a week with. Then I didn't get round to it. Then I meant to do a big Ellen Ripley picspam to show why I fell for that character to say farewell for a week. Then it took ages to screencap just one of the Alien films. Instead, I present you with:

Reasons to Love Ellen Ripley: Weirdly sized pictures from Alien.

Ripley Picspam )

And then some joyous rambling about books and the coming week:
