It's Valentine's Day. This usually means it is time for me to shun the world and embrace the Mars Bars. Today, it means that I am going to give you a picspam of five fictional couples that have meant something great to me.
We'll be starting with possibly the most important fictional characters in my life.

1) Fox Mulder/Dana Scully - The X Files
These two lovable, will-they-won't-they-for-god's-sake-shag-already, FBI agents were the first people to make me care about romance, or even to realise what romance could be, outside of the idealised view most people grow up having. They didn't like each other. Then they did. Then they needed each other. Then they couldn't live without each. For God's sake, in the film, when the big bad conspiracy guys were trying to get at Mulder, they got at Scully (admittedly using some damn poor grammar - "that which without which he cannot live without", anyone? No? Okay then.). It worked. There were nearly kisses, various hugs and other forms of physical affection, care and banter and then the love, and if anybody thinks there is a couple greater than these two, they are just wrong. They were the first people that inspired me to write fan fiction, and they were my first fandom, and to me, there is nothing greater. Nothing.

2) The Ninth Doctor/Rose - Doctor Who
He is a 900 year old Timelord. She is a 19 year old girl from London who worked in a shop. He had just destroyed his home planet and everyone on it when they met. She came along to see the universe and time and everything between. Again, he needed her. I believe if he hadn't met her...I don't know what he would have done, but it would have probably killed him. She was the balance to him, she steadied him and in return he showed her what nobody else could. He would have done anything for her, and then he went and killed himself for her. Okay, so he regenerated (into a prattish, weasel-faced git who effectively destroyed my love for the show) but still. They were perfect for each other. I'm not a "OMGZROSEISTHEONLYONE" type crazy person, but in a way - I am.
It's a shame the dynamic changed when David Tennant became the Doctor. This did not stop me from sobbing and sobbing and sobbing when they finally had to part though. Because I did. A lot.

3) JD/Doctor Cox - Scrubs
This started off as a intern/mentor relationship, in which JD would do anything for the approval of Doctor Cox, and it still is in many ways, even though they're pretty much equal now (I think) in terms of status in the hospital. Doctor Cox just calls JD girls names and rants at him and takes everything he goes through out on him and JD takes it. He wants to be there for Doctor Cox, and really, the pair of them care about each other so much that it hurts when they argue, or they don't talk, or they disapprove of each other, and they make me cry so easily. The episodes "My Lunch" and the following one were painful to watch. They are wonderful together.

4) Laura Roslin/Kara Thrace - Battlestar Galactica
Laura is the President. Kara is the screw-up pilot, favourite of the Commander (Admiral now, I suppose.). Kara is also the only person outside of Billy (Laura's presidential aide) that Laura tells about her cancer (I think. Why don't I know these things?) and she manipulates her into disobeying an order from the Commander and she does it not by it being important for the fleet but by it being important to Laura. There are some amazing power struggle issues to be explored. Kara is kind of in awe of Laura and kind of defiant of her in equal parts and Laura...I don't quite know how Laura thinks of Kara. Laura is sublime. This pairing is important to me because they were the first pairing I wrote out and out, no plot, pure smut for and Laura is the person that made me more carefree about the whole 'I like girls a lot more than guys' thing, and thus this pairing is my love.

5) Sirius Black/Remus Lupin - Harry Potter
In Harry Potter, I am a pairings whore. Seriously. These two, however, are the most important. "Embraced like brothers" my arse. The books are full of this underlying wonderfulness between them (and the film with them both in only encouraged it - does that look like a brotherly hug?!). Lupin is the only one who can calm down / otherwise influence Sirius into doing / not doing anything and Sirius is the side of Lupin he is afraid of or tries to suppress, but together they are so perfect. To me, they represent the first slash pairing (male slash or femslash) that I truly adored, and their relationship is somewhat flawed ('hi, I thought you were a betraying pyscho killer for years until I realised it was someone else!' 'hi, I went to prison and then went a bit crazy and am part of a really shitty family and now I've gone stir-crazy!') but so touching, and they were school friends and it's just so long running and beautiful.
And to all of you wonderful people on my friends list, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! You are all lovely and brilliant! *hands out cookies*

Screw Valentine's cards. Have a picspam with nonsensical ramblings instead!
