mooging: (Havemercy: oh thom)
I have spent the last few days having my brain eaten by Havemercy, the first book by Jaida Jones ([ profile] ladyjaida, she of Shoebox notoriety) and Dani Bennett ([ profile] danibennett). Most of you have already experienced me metaphorically shoving this book at your faces, but I felt compelled to make a post about it, because, OH MY GOD.

Also, you all need to read it as of yesterday. Here is a summary I wrote, ganked from a comment in [ profile] sophieisgod's journal:

Moog-style summary, no spoilers past the set-up for the novel, so, like, the first chapter? )

TL;DR: SHORT VERSION - GAY MAGICIANS AND METAL DRAGONS. READ IT NOWWW. It takes a bit longer to get into than some books do, but this is because you are immediately introduced to four different characters who have four different ways of looking at the world, and knowledge about the world, and so the first few chapters are quite heavy on the confusion/world-building factors, but, honestly, it is so good that that doesn't seem to matter.

A big thanks goes to [ profile] twicetheheart31 who has been joining me in writing epically long comments about this book, and to whom I say BALFOURRRRR, because I am re-reading it now and HIS GLOVES. Oh, hey, do some of you not know what I'm talking about? READ THE BOOK.

No, no, I will not stop talking about this book until everyone I know has read it.

Moving on: icon meme time! I have two of these to do, and another cold, wth body, and so this seemed like the right day to play.

That one that was floating around a while ago, but I Am Slow - apparently - and also I like looking at icons. )

And this one too:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

[ profile] miss_atom gave me these to talk about. )

That was a lot of words about nothing! Well done good werks to me. Here are some miscellaneous words:

- Today, in an effort to provide my cold-ridden self with some good noms, I made some banana bread, only I modified the recipe to include pecans and dairy-free chocolate chunks, and it is indeed good noms. NOM NOM NOM.

- I am currently enjoying the benefits of having an 90 day free introductory period to LoveFilm, which I am abusing by using it to watch things I just wouldn't pay money for and also indulging in the fact that I am apparently entirely ridiculous and currently only want to watch ridiculous things. What I have at home right now: The Rage in Placid Lake, Wild Child and Mulan. OH YEAH, I'M COOL.

- I am pretending that if I don't think about the exams, either they won't happen or I won't freak out. Either of these two options is an acceptable outcome.

- HAVEMERCY, EVERYONE, GO AND READ IT. The paperback version comes out in July, and so does the sequel, jkadajhdjkg, I am so excited.

One last meme, edited because I have done this one a freaking zillion times, and you don't want to hear the same thing from me, like, again:

Comment on this entry, and I will:

1. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, a word etc.
2. Tell you something I like about you.
3. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
4. Rec you something on the internets to go and look at.
5. In return, you must can post this in your LJ, if you feel like procrastinating too.

- Let me know if you comment which (if either, or indeed, if you choose both) meme you'd like to play along with.

O flist, I have a query for you:

Does Lent begin on Ash Wednesday, or the Friday after? I remember a big debate about this in one of my Religious classes during my GCSEs and not actually paying any attention to what was decided. SO I TURN TO YOU.

ANYWAY. Here are some videos for your faces ♥

YouTube favourites, how I enjoy you )

Ridiculous fly-by late-night post, when I should be in bed in preparation for getting on a train tomorrow to go to the lovely [ profile] strangeumbrella BUT BUT BUT:

Looking at the acknowledgements page for Black Butterfly, Mark Gatiss' latest Lucifer Box novel, HE ONLY FUCKING THANKS JULIAN RHIND-TUTT

Augh, I've had this flu-bug type thing for the last week, and while it's mostly gone now, let me tell you, M.E. does not get on with having additional illness shoved on top of it. SUCK IT UP, M.E.; I NEED TO GET THIS COURSEWORK DONE.

Before I move on, can I just say a really HUGE thank you to everyone who put up with the whiny texts from me, and who joined me in texting inane and random things back and forth all day every day: you have kept me sane when members of my family couldn't communicate with me for fear of catching the death bug, and as my only links to staying sane, you were AMAZING to the extent that I cannot properly express my gratitude. ♥ okay, many, many ♥ (and to [ profile] lo0o0ony_lauren, who had the joy of trying to organize something with me while my brain could barely remember what my name was, you are a better woman than I, my sweet).

ANYWAY. It was a great great thing that on Monday, the first day that I was basically incapable of getting off the sofa without falling down (no, really; it would have been hilarious had it not hurt), the complete League of Gentlemen boxset arrived on my doormat. And then it didn't leave my eyes until Saturday.

Could I find screencaps (FAIL), I would be doing a picspam as we speak. Well, er, not right now, because I need to go do yoga and make dinner to be ready for Being Human at 9 (hurrah!), but soon.

This entry is pointless; here is Mark Gatiss to make that better. )
