So somehow I have managed to post for such a ridiculous length of time that my paid account expired and the judgemental thing on the homepage is telling me LAST POSTED 7 WEEKS AGO in what I consider to be an unnecessarily large font size, and I am made of epic fail.

I have since dropped English Language, and am hoping to actually go into my sixth form a lot more this year.

I attended an epically good summer school at Gonville and Caius college, Cambridge at the beginning of summer, during which I discovered that apparently undergraduates eat roughly enough for three people each day, having an en-suite student room is awesome and that I would actually like to apply to Cambridge, not Oxford, so that is what I am going to do. This came as a bit of a shock, seeing as I spent approximately 12 years wanting to apply to Oxford, but then I went to Oxford and didn't really warm to it. I mean, it was nice, but I never got that sense of real longing, you know, the one that makes your heart hurt with wanting to stay somewhere, and within about two minutes of being out of the car in Cambridge I just wanted to be there more, and so here's hoping Christ's College, Cambridge, are looking for someone with M.E., not that many skillzors and an ice-cream habit to study with them!

Er, also this summer I have procrastinated endlessly about getting driving lessons (soon! I must have one before my 18th ffs) and been unable to write stuff for the various fic challenges I signed up for, although I am nearly done on that score.
 
In non-real type things, I really need the second half of season 4 BSG.  Also moar Being Human. Preferably soon. ALTHOUGH, okay, how awesome does the BBC autumn/winter schedule look? We've got Tess of the d'Urbervilles, which I really rather like now the whole coursework connotation is done with, and Little Dorrit, and MERLIN, MERLINNNN, which has the propensity to be either really awesomely campily cheesily good or spectacularly bad, and I'll happily watch either to be honest.

Has anyone seen Hellboy 2? I enjoyed it a lottt. Unpronouncable-first-name del Toro is such a good visual director, and his style really makes the sad fairytale/fantasy enthusiast inside me go all giddy, and, like, creatures and big red people going SMASH is always going to be good. Especially with his sidekicks WATERDUDE* and FIRELADY*. YAYE ELEMENTAL SMACKDOWNS.

Last thing: a tad concerned that I need to have done the whole UCAS thing by the 26th September for my sixth form's imposed Oxbridge deadline and I have NO PERSONAL STATEMENT written yet. Whoops. I really need to go read The Iliad (and no more Greek tragedy, god, The Oresteia is just unreadable, except Clytaemnestra is a bit fabulous).

STFU, you can do ERASMUS at Cambridge!

And I didn't find Italian very hard to pick up, though obviously it's very similar to French and I've done that since I was 5 years old so that helped. :p

But seriously, I would definitely choose Italian over French if I had to only do one because a lot less people do it so I assume it would be like in my uni where the classes are really small and everyone knows each other and it's all really friendly. And for a classicist there's obviously more stuff relevant to that in Italy (Rome is full of ruins, srsly). And the Italians properly love you if you can speak their language because it's a lot less common for them to be able to speak English. And the food is better. ;)

I don't think I can do ERASMUS at Cambridge. I mean, I know I couldn't do it at Oxford so I'm assuming Cambridge take the same attitude. I shall investigate further!

I'm definitely thinking about picking up Italian: I'm starting a teach yourself basic thingum my dad has, so I should be able to say hello at some point in the near future! From doing some flashcards with him, I am now able to say the massively useful phrase 'I have a fantastic apartment with a kiosk'. Oh yeah.

Oooh, it sounds lovely. How long are you there for? I think my second choice uni is either going to be Edinburgh or Royal Holloway, so I can go to either Italy or Greece. How useful will modern Greek be in day to day life when I am not in Greece? I do not know.

My other SKILL in Italian is to fear the word for wonderful, or marvellous, mainly because it looked hideously unpronouncable. Er. I am going to WIN at the whole language thing.

While we're here, do you still have a copy of your personal statement on your computer? Is there perhaps any way I could read it? I HAVE NO SKILLS, INTERESTS OR USES.

You were right about ERASMUS at Cambridge btw, though if you're just interested in doing Latin or Greek apparently you could combine it with a Modern Language and go on a year abroad on the Modern & Medieval Languages course (which is the one I applied for). They do Italian for beginners too.

Meraviglioso? It's a gorgeous word and not that hard once you hear it a few times. :p

And yes of course I'll send you my personal statement! The one I have on my laptop is a draft version but it will still give you a good idea. What's your email address?

I did actually think about MML, but overall I couldn't let go of doing some Greek with my Latin, so I think if I get into Cambridge, Moog's Magical Adventures Abroad will just have to wait three years. That, or I can use the Cambridge travel grants to swan off in the summer!
