'love, love will tear us apart again'
Mar. 16th, 2009 10:23 pmHumour me, flist. It is either keep myself busy on the internets, or go and throw up forever. Nausea is not the boss of me, I say! I say, down with fail and up with FREAKING POINTLESS MEMES! FUN FOR EVERYONE! also I am going to get those 5 Things comments done very very soon, I promise.
On another note, I'm thinking about making this journal semi-friends only. I mean, I lock most of the stuff I don't feel comfortable sharing with the world at large, but I'm thinking of maybe extending that to just everything that isn't either an entirely fandom-related post, or fic. Flist, what are your thoughts? Are you friends-only? What do you think of friends-only journals in general? Has semi-friends only worked for you?
Feel free to join in with one, or both, I really don't mind! I'm off on a new icon gathering haul around LJ, la la la, I must make the most of these two short months with all the userpic spaces, fun fun fun.
1) Comment and I will:
1) Tell you why I friended you.
2) Associate you with a song/film.
3) Tell a random fact about you.
4) Tell a first memory about you.
5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
8) In retort, you must spead this disease in your LJ. (except, you don't have to do this at all, whatever meme rules, I openly defy you).
2) Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal pseudo-canon.
(Also, I really don't mind if you pick more than one character, but no more than three please, because there are LIMITS TO MY BRAIN.)
BASICALLY I JUST WANT TO BUM AROUND THE INTERNET FOR A BIT; WHO'S WITH ME?

Date: 2009-03-16 11:26 pm (UTC)2) Associate you with a song/film. Ohhh, goddd, I don't really associate you with a song or a film; I associate you (now) with the lovely Derren, but before that with Top Gear, and Pokemon. Er er er er. OH NO, WAIT: that insane song you linked to in one of your entries from a video game - it, er, involved The Little Mermaid, I think, or it was at least set under the sea - and it was completely crackers, and may have been in a different language, and it was brilliant.
3) Tell a random fact about you. YOU SENT DERREN BROWN A UKULELE.
4) Tell a first memory about you. That Torchwood post! You liked Suzie and Rhys, and it was awesome. Also reading your Top Gear fic and laughing so much I thought I might actually just die. That one about NaNoWriMo still makes me laugh to the point where I can't really breathe properly, just so you know, and the one where the TG boys go to Silent Hill is one of my favourite fics, ever, no joke. ♥ Oh oh, I know, finding out that you liked Sherlock Holmes, and having to go and read all the entries you had ever made about it, because Holmes and Watson own a huge and lasting part of my soul.
5) Associate you with a character/pairing. EVERYONE EVER/EVERYONE EVER, PARTICULARLY IF THEY ARE NOT AT ALL LIKELY TO BE IN A PAIRING OR INDEED THE SAME PLACE AT ALL. In particular, now, Doctor/Derren, but that is for Obvious and Understandable Reasons!
6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. Why English Language? (I mean, I completely get it - I am a grammar/word geek too, if not a particularly adept one - but what is it about the subject that really makes you go YES THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO DO?
7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours. I love

Date: 2009-03-17 09:39 pm (UTC)2) AUGH, NOT FINNY FUN (or 'Swim This Way', as it may possibly actually be called). THAT IS A TERRIBLE SONG WITH WHICH TO BE ASSOCIATED.
6) I am not sure! My school didn't actually offer English Language at A Level; it stopped after GCSE, so I had absolutely no idea of what a university course in it would entail or whether I would enjoy it. But I'd already started beta-reading, and I was the sort of person who twitched at a misplaced apostrophe, and I'd read a couple of popular books on language acquisition (I was completely fascinated by the question of how exactly children learn language from scratch), and I just thought it would be interesting to know more about the language.
I can't really place why I applied to study English Language alongside Literature, but I am so glad I did, because I love studying English Language. I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN WHY IT'S SO FASCINATING. IT JUST IS. I love understanding the language I use! When I say things like 'I have been enjoying English Language', I love knowing what jobs 'have' and 'been' are doing and why 'I have am enjoying English Language' doesn't work. GRAMMAR IS AWESOME.
Also, last year, I got to write an essay comparing Roald Dahl's style when writing for children to his style when writing for adults. Any subject that allows me to read children's books as legitimate essay research gets a thumbs-up from me.
Regarding the personal canon:
- He talks to the moose-head on his walls.
- When he's bored, he tries to count in his head. In Braille.
I AM IMMEDIATELY ADOPTING BOTH OF THESE. I am sure that Derren and the moose-head have had some very deep conversations.
Also, I love that your personal canon contradicts itself.
- He may or may not be a vampire/time lord/secret ukulele player/pig farmer who has abandoned his family estate/the man from the moon.
DERREN BROWN IS EVERYONE.

Date: 2009-03-16 11:31 pm (UTC)- He and Tennant and Mark Gatiss are all BFFs. Like, FOREVER. He and Mark bond over their love of Victoriana, and he and Tennant bond because they are both massive dorks, and Derren is the only one of them that can actually cook, so he tends to be the one to host evenings together: Tennant sometimes has a go, but then they end up getting a takeaway once they see the end product, and Mark doesn't even try anymore - if they go to his house, Derren cooks there, or they just order something straight away.
- They don't talk about the last time Mark tried to cook.
- He kind of doesn't like Reece Shearsmith but gets on with him because they are both really good friends with Mark, and neither of them want to upset him in any way.
- CONFLICTING PERSONAL CANON: he and Reece get on really well because they both love magic so much.
- He talks to the moose-head on his walls.
- When he's bored, he tries to count in his head. In Braille.
- He may or may not be a vampire/time lord/secret ukulele player/pig farmer who has abandoned his family estate/the man from the moon.
WHAT WHAT, I DON'T EVEN KNOW, OKAY. Also we are totes watching some League when I come and stay. You have no choice in the matter.
