This is still not the post I am going to make about what is going on in general in my life (as disappointed as you all are to realise that, I'm sure) but what it is can basically be summed up by this text conversation I had with [livejournal.com profile] twicetheheart31 (my texts are in green):

By which I mean, help help I have been watching Supernatural. I finished Season 4 last night. GUYS GUYS GUYS WHY DID NONE OF YOU EVER FORCE ME TO WATCH THIS SHOW BEFORE? I mean, I read fic for it and I vaguely kept up with what was going on without actually watching it (do any of you do that with tv shows? Added bonus of looking at pretty picspams but then I always end up spoiled for stuff when I do eventually get splammed into proper fandom mode. I SHOULD REALLY LEARN, RIGHT?). But then! I bought the s1 boxset because it was supremely cheap in HMV a few weeks ago and I'd really been meaning to give it a proper go instead of having to turn the tv off in fear watching reruns late at night, and then the next day I bought seasons 2-4. OH YEAH.

I find that when I talk about SPN with another female, the first thing I tend to ask, because I am a) ridiculous and b) quite shallow apparently, is whether they are a Dean girl or a Sam girl. I am so far over on the Dean girl side it is frankly retarded but I do spend a lot of time making grabby hands the screen and going OH LITTLE SAMMY WINCHESTER whenever Sam is around. Or, er, ogling Jared Padalecki because I am not blind. The Winchester family wins at being attractive, right? Right.

I really should start making reaction posts because inevitably this situation happens and I want to splam about this show but I can't remember all the things that have sent me wrong. Mainly though, I want to talk about these things:

1. The Winchester brothers are totally in love. (I don't even care, I can wincest or not wincest, they are just in love, however you want to read it. THEIR LOVE MAKES ME GO SPLAM.
2. CAST-FREAKING BAMF-IEL. I went in to s4 with an open mind about his presence because although the entire internets seemed to have formed the consensus that he was stupidly awesome like the sun, you know, the internets can exaggerate. BUT THEY DIDN'T. I love him in increasing and unexpected amounts. EVEN THE OTHER ANGELS SHIP HIM WITH DEAN, OKAY. And that bit in When the Levee Breaks where Dean is all, yeah, whatever, divine plan, sign me up now and then Castiel is like SAY IT - I made a really, really inappropriate noise. And shame on me for ever thinking that the line "I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition" would be a bit lame. BECAUSE IT WASN'T.
3. The women. I should probably do a different post to talk about the women and my thoughts there, because I feel like I should give them a bit more consideration than to just shove in some words in a post that is clearly mostly me going FNNNNG WINCHESTERS, but mostly I like them.
4. Is it me, or have I seen half of these episodes before but on the X-Files? An episode about luck, a Groundhog Day episode, the two different POVs episode - and I swear there are more that have obviously left my brain now I actually want to talk about them. Not that I'm complaining! Both are awesome! And, honestly, anything that brings up the X-Files earns my instant love. Same as if something I'm watching mentions Cagney and Lacey, or Ellen Ripley. Let's hear it for first fandoms!

ANYWAY: Supernatural! Your thoughts? Favourite episodes? Favourite HALP I'M REALLY SPLAMMED moments? Share with me.

So I've seen four seasons in under a month. Well done me? I think yes.

In other, unrelated to the Winchester brothers news, I continue to be a ridiculous specimen of humanity. I have a giant bruise on my hip. How did I get this bruise? From a shampoo bottle. A shampoo bottle. I also have a deeply attractive rash all over my legs that is slowly creeping its way up over my knees. I think it's from my moisturiser. IT IS SO ITCHY. I don't even care if this is tmi, MY LEGS ARE SO ITCHY. ITCHY ITCHY ITCHY. (I'm sorry if now you are itchy.)

Also, I started playing Professor Layton and the Curious Village on the ds, and I'm enjoying it v. much. On the flipside, it did make me remember fairly quickly that I am spectacularly rubbish at certain types of puzzle. Currently I am trying to work out the longest route through a town. IT KEEPS SAYING I AM WRONG, BUT I WILL DEFEAT IT possibly with the help of the internet, shut up.

How is possible that I can have nearly 50 userpic spaces and still need more? A mystery worthy of Professor Layton if ever there was one. Possibly I should not use icons of shows I don't watch a lot just because the icons are really pretty, but hush with your logic, I know not of this foreign concept of sense.

To round off this entry, let's shove an optional meme up in here: top 5 lists! Ask for a Top 5 of anything and I will oblige. Go go go!

Oh, yes. (Possibly slightly odd fact: I didn't remember until I hit 'help help I have been watching Supernatural' that you hadn't actually watched it before, because in my head you, [livejournal.com profile] lo0o0ony_lauren and [livejournal.com profile] strangeumbrella are all the same person, and I knew Loz had watched it. I DON'T KNOW.)

I don't 'ship them in a romantic sense, but the Winchesters' love is amaaaaaaazing.

Ooh, please do make a separate post about the women! I love the women of Supernatural. ELLEN AND JO AND BELA AND RUBY AND PAM ♥ ♥ ♥.

Also, I'm wondering how watching the whole of Supernatural in an incredibly short space of time feels, because it has changed so much since the first series. I imagine rocketing from 'horror, focus on the case' to 'a bit more humour, more focus on the relationship between the brothers' to 'YEAH, THERE'S A FANDOM FOR THE SHOW WITHIN THE SHOW ITSELF AND WE'RE NOT EVEN PRETENDING TO TAKE OURSELVES SERIOUSLY ANY MORE. ALSO, ANGELS' must be a bit disconcerting.

The Winchesters! They are so in love! I can't even make sensible thougts on the matter at all. I just start making whale noises, and now I can't hear Carry On My Wayward Son without spontaneously weeping like a child.

You like Jo? Explain this to me! The majority of things I have read about her on the internets have been negative, but I am saving my thoughts for that other post :p

I don't know if I'm the best person to ask if watching the whole of SPN (minus s5) in a really short amount of time is weird (apart from how I did that, but shut up) because I was sort of aware of Big Spoilers for the later seasons - such as ANGELS! FANDOM! MORE ANGELS! SAM WHAT ARE YOU DOING! - but then Supernatural has the honour of being a show that comes packaged with MotW episodes as well as Mytharc ones in which I actually prefer the mytharc episodes so when it started being all ANGELS! DOOM! NO HAPPY ENDINGS EVER! I was actually fairly pleased. Er. Apart from, dude, the Winchesters really need to catch a break, and, you know, DOOM.

I am so spacktastically looking forward to s5, and massively not looking forward to having to wait till September for the second half to be out on dvd.

So, Sam or Dean?

OH HELL YES SUPERNATURAL. I love it, I have since my first year of uni (when there was only one season to watch through in like two days or whatever and totally mess up that week's essay), it's silly but it's wonderful. Particularly Castiel.

4. Is it me, or have I seen half of these episodes before but on the X-Files?

YES. Although I saw it the other way round, I watched SPN first, but YES.

Before I start: YOUR ICON. YOUR ICONNN.

I think that about sums up my feelings on the matter.

Supernatural! It should be fairly evident from this mental post that I have gone a bit wrong over it this last month. I think I am distracting my friend from crucial revision by texting her with such words of wisdom as FNNNG DEAN'S FACE, which, you know, if I saw written down on an exam paper, I would totally give a first.

AND YOU WATCH THE X-FILES, homg. I can't even deal with my love for that show. Have you seen Bad Blood? Because I swear I can quote huge chunks of that episode to whoever will listen (and I do).

Ha, that text conversation! I held out on Dean/Cas forever because I knew that once I started, I wouldn't be able to stop. AND I WAS CORRECT. Help, I went from reading only genfic to reading Dean/Cas like it's my job, heeelp. (Please don't actually help.)

THEY ARE IN SO MUCH LOVE. We have established that incest squicks me and Wincest is a big no no, but you cannot deny their epic, epic love. EVER. If you try, I will fight you. Also, you have never asked me if I was a Dean!girl or a Sam!girl. Which is fine, because the answer would be neither. I AM A WIN!GIRL. YOU CAN'T MAKE ME CHOOSE. Also, Team Free Will. Which is a reference you don't understand yet. BUT YOU WILL.

"I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition" AADFJADKF;AADAL;JK It's iambic! How epic is that? CASTIEL SPEAKS IN IAMBIC. LEST YOU FORGET THAT HE IS A BADASS. Also, you need to rewatch the end of 'Are You There God' because the scene in the kitchen? "I pulled you out of Hell; I can put you back in"? "You should show me some RESPECT"? NNNGGHHHH.

Mostly you like the women, eh? You need to be more specific, because now I'm all burning with curiosity. I love Ellen and JO and Pamela and MARY FUCKING CAMPBELL, for instance, but not so much love for Bela or Ruby 2.0. (Although I don't have as much hate for Ruby as most of the fandom does, to be fair. And I love Ruby 1.0 like, omg, she is awesome.)

Those X-Files-ish episodes you mentioned are pretty common in genre type shows, actually, so that's probably why they seem so familiar. Also, the late Kim Manners was head director of both SPN and X-Files, so that's another reason the show would remind you of it.

HOW DO THE COMMENTS I WRITE YOU ALWAYS GET SO LONG. HOW.

True story: I figured out how to take photos of text conversations for the sole purpose of making this post.

OUT OF ORDER BUT NEVER MIND: THAT SCENE. THAAAAT SCENE. YOU SHOULD SHOW ME SOME RESPECT. OH MY GOD. I DON'T KNOW HOW I DIDN'T PUT THAT IN THIS POST BECAUSE LOOK, LOOK AT ALL THESE CAPS, OKAY, I WAS STILL COPING WITH 'I'M THE ONE WHO GRIPPED YOU TIGHT AND RAISED YOU FROM PERDITION' AND THEN THERE'S CAS WITH HIS FACE AND PUTTING HIS FACE REALLY THREATENINGLY CLOSE TO DEAN AND BEING ALL DECEPTIVELY TRENCHCOAT WEARING AND THEN PULLING THAT 'I CAN PUT YOU BACK IN' STUFF AND HELP HELP HELP WHY DO I LOVE THIS CHARACTER SO MUCH?

Ahem.

I read a Dean/Cas when I was still watching s1 for the first time, because it was by a fic writer that wrote one of my favourite Merlin fics ever, and it sent me completely mental and it was about that time that I started wondering whether Castiel was as awesome as the internets would have had me believe. I drove my poor wincest-ing friend mad by being all SO THIS ANGEL DUDE, I WONDER WHAT HE IS LIKE BECAUSE, FNNNG, THAT FIC WAS A+. Do you have recs somewhere? I want fic but also I don't want to go looking for spoilerphobic reasons.

WIN!GIRL for the win! Correct response. I am a Dean girl because of HIS FACE, and his stumpy walk, and the fact that he is Dean, and because he ripped Sam's iPod dock out of the Impala, and 87393 other reasons, but I love Sam lots and lots too. He also has a FACE (entirely different to lowercase face).

I will do a post all about the women! I will I will. I'm thinking also that I should start doing episode reaction posts, what do you think? Oooh, while I'm on the subject, what are the general fandom opinions on the women? I got that Bela is fairly widely disliked and Ellen must be held as a pinnacle of excellence, surely, but, er, what else?

Kim Manners! I did a flail every time his name turned up in the credits. My X-Files love is strong and ridiculous. Oh genre shows. Thank you for being A+.

WHY, COMMENT. WHY SO LONG?

(ooh, your icon reminds me I need to upload this one that made me lol a lot a lot)

Deceptively trenchcoat wearing, ahaha. Also, 'Lucifer Rising': Cas grabbing Dean and PUSHING HIM UP AGAINST THE WALL AND BEING ALL OMINOUS AND THE HAND OVER DEAN'S MOUTH AND OH MY GODDDDD. FKDJALDS. Dear Kripke, thank you for Castiel. And Misha. Well, no, we can't thank Kripke for Misha, I guess we'd have to thank Misha's mom for him. THANK YOU, MRS. COLLINS.

Oooh, you must tell me what that fic was! And the Merlin one! Before I started reading J2 (*cough*) I was all Merlin/Arthur, all the time. Er... I guess you didn't specify that that favorite fic was slash or not, but um. I assume things. I've actually been meaning to make a rec post, so it'll be up either today or sometime tomorrow... um, it's only 7 here so it will most likely be up by the time you get this. :)

You don't have to explain the Dean!love to me. ♥ It's hard to even explain it! This is why fandom is full of fic and picspams and vids and CAPSLOCK. It is the best way we can express DEAN WINCHESTER. AND DEAN WINCHESTER'S FACE. AND SAM'S FACE. AFUDHFSOFDHSI, WINCHESTERS. I love Sammy for being a geek!boy and for trying to do the right thing all the time (and thus I hate Ruby for manipulating him and I hate Yellow Eyes for giving him the demon blood in the first place and I hate fucking DESTINY for making him Lucifer's vessel. GRRRRRR.

Ahem. Sorry. My GRR got in the way of my ADSKJFLA;!, there.

As far as the women - word to the wise, do NOT mention Ruby 2.0. Ever. I am astonished and appalled at the outpouring of pure hate for her. I could go into a huge rant about it, but I will just tell you to be cautious, 'cause bringing up the Ruby issue is toxic. People think she's ugly, she can't act, she tainted Sam forever, she was flat, boring, and unconvincing. That is not what I think, but I am in the vast minority. Ruby 1.0 is acclaimed, though, because she was the shit. (Even though people hated her at first. Hypocrisy, yay.)

Things are split regarding Jo. I wasn't part of the fandom when she was first introduced, but from what I can tell, people hated her as well. In the long absence of Jo & Ellen from 'Born Under a Bad Sign' until s5, more people liked her and the ones who liked her all along started crawling out of the woodwork. For the record, I love her and always have. She's the only hunter who has CHOSEN to hunt, and not been pushed into it. That is awesome.

Everybody loves Pamela. We are saddened by her death. Everybody loves Ellen, as you know. Mary Campell Winchester is like the goddess of our show. You know we all hated Bela (although I was satisfied with the end of her story).

Lots and lots of people cry 'misogyny' regarding the women on the show in general. They all die, the boys always love 'em and leave 'em, male characters dominate. (Sam, Dean, John, Bobby, Castiel...) But really? I think people are taking offense where it's not needed. There are some amazing ladies on the show, and they're treated just like all the other supporting characters: secondary to Sam and Dean. The boys ARE the show. Don't like it, leave.

SORRY. MORE GRRRR. I get a little out of control when I defend my show. :) And talking about it in general. Remember our collective word vomit about Havemercy? Take that, multiply it by a hundred.

I have an exam tomorrow morning and therefore have not the spoons to comment on your SPN-related ramblings, but:

Moog! You're alive! This is good!

I am alive! Well done me.

I hope your exam goes well! At the very least, don't set fire to the exam paper and you'll be fine.
