Apr. 28th, 2006 09:27 pmReal life entry this time!
(Before that: two more fics are coming when I type them up!)
On with the fun:
First of all, the French oral? Over now. My grade? A*. Yes, that is an A* - I got 39 out of 40! *calm* *very loud squeeing* It was possibly the most nerve-wracking thing in the world. Seriously. There was this question and I had no idea what it meant, but I had this vague idea and so I said something along those lines and it was right! God, it was panicky though. When it was over, I kind of collapsed on the table and my French teacher looked very concerned. However, she did say that I had a very good accent and sounded fluent. To which I beamed and thanked her and then kind of went on very wibbly legs back to my lesson.
So much coursework at the moment and I swear I need more sleep. Why aren't there more hours in the day? I just had to stop last night (shaking over French) and watch Harry Potter 4 (which I have bought on dvd now. Thank God, I missed it - it's not the greatest, but still. See other entries for my feelings on that!) and tonight I just have such a headache that I had to put down the coursework and do nothing instead. It's a long weekend though, so I've got time.
Missing my paid account. Never mind, will adjust to having six icons. At least my layout didn't get hurt, apart from having the white page behind this cut but that's ok. It still looks pretty.
And here be Holiday Stuff with lots of clicky links.
I promised I'd get round to this!
Ok, we went to Costa Teguise in Lanzarote and stayed in the Oasis Lanz Club apartments, which I would highly recommend. It's very near the restaurants (which are very good, I only had one adequate meal and the rest were fabulous) and near three beaches. It has pretty, spacious apartments and our apartment faced the pool.
I didn't go out a lot during in the day (sun? Pah) but I went in the pool every day. I did at least 40 laps - ok, 30 - every day so I felt worthy of the nice food at night. Costa Teguise is very, very windy though. Like whoa. At night it was freezing but I did not let this stop me from wearing silly thin clothes - much more appealing! Will put some photos up when I get them...also will need to scan them in...but I promise there will be pictures.
One night I bought three bracelets. One has black and silver little beads on with little charms shaped like turtles (so sweet, really), one is just made up of chunky detailed tarnished-y looking beads and the other is kind of thin with silver strands...I will try to get pictures up of those too!
Nicest restaurant was basically built on a ledge out over the sea and huge windows without glass (don't worry, there were coverings so we didn't freeze) and the view was stunning, the food was superb (Seriously, anyone who doesn't like avocado and prawns? Is mad. Mad as a hatter.) and the waiters? *fans self* My God. How does one country spawn so many stunning people? I mean, really.
Speaking of waiters, there was this one in the first place we went to eat and he was very tall/gangly with all these floppy blonde curls that he had to keep shoving out of his face and this aquiline nose and the most amazing, sinew-y arms. I have a thing about arms. Like Tilda's arms - see her in Narnia whilst wearing The Chainmail Dress for more on that wonder. (Three pictures, all from Narnia Web)
I read a ton of books, most of which were good, but I come with three recommendations that I must make sure everyone has read and two that were almost as good.
Strongly Recommend:
Doctor Who - The Feast of the Drowned by Stephen Cole. My favourite of the latest batch of new Doctor Who books, wonderfully in character, angsty in place while still retaining that humour and...well. Yes.
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Now, I haven't seen the film, but this book is just wonderful. It's just drags you into the world and involves you with the characters and is so foreign but so close to home...and read it now.
Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres. Again, I haven't seen the film. The book is beautifully written and almost slow but the characters are all so real, everything just comes together and it's...I think it's my favourite out of the ones I read there.
Other good reads:
I Am the Cheese by Robert Cormier. Ok, this guy totally owns my soul but I knew that before I went away. His books always seem so simplistic but kind of odd all the way through and then you get to the end and he wrenches everything you've just read out from under your feet and turns everything around so you have to go back and read it again to see how everything works. Other books of his that I adore (meaning: have read) are Fade and We All Fall Down which are both quite unsettling.
Doctor Who: The Stone Rose by Jacqueline Rayner. This one isn't as strong as The Feast of the Drowned, but the ending is true time travel kookiness and it is shippylikewhoa and in the good way. Made me happy.
Thus endeth the mammoth entry of randomness and clicky links!
