Bizarrely, when I finally decided I wasn't going to apply, the bit that made me saddest was OH BUT THE BEAUTIFUL SPIRES OF THE CITY, I WILL NOT SEE THEM IN MY DAILY LIFE.

See, see, I keep being told that Cambridge as a city is nicer than Oxford, but I have this inexplicable raging Oxford-shaped blind-spot, and just keep going BRIDESHEAD and BIG PRETTY BUILDINGS and COBBLES and JUDE THE OBSCURE only that last one is really sad so no (I watched the film on Christmas Eve, having not read the book and with no-one telling me quite how depressing it would be (OH GOOD LORD), which was a stupid idea).
