Fly-by post time, and I should BE ASLEEP, god.

- I am (clearly) no longer in Greece: pictures should be coming soon, maybe, and, er, more talkings on this topic. For now, Greece = awesome but Athens was the scariest place, I swear. HOW IS THAT CITY SO BIG? On the top of the Acropolis, I took roughly umpteen zillion pictures of the Vast Sea of Athens because I couldn't quite get over how much city there was. Wows.

(this one is from the top of the Acropolis, near Athena's temple)

(this one is from the top of the Acropolis, just to the side of the Parthenon)

And that's just, like, two angles. :O

- I WANT BSG S4 RIGHT NOW. I am going a little bit insane. The Americans have seen it. The downloading people have seen it. The UK can (legally) see it next Tuesday, when it is on Sky, but I CAN'T, because my laptop doesn't have enough disc space for me to download it (on a side-note, I have, like, ~600 megabytes left on the C drive, and I'm thinking that's not good) and I don't have Sky. I NEED ME SOME LAURA ROSLIN.

And can I just say, as I don't remember if I've said this here yet, I am not spoiled for s4 of BSG. Please do not spoil me for anything. Thank you. (are the dvds out yet? plz?)

- I now have a puppy! His name is Morris, and he is a whippet, and if I never have to clean the kitchen floor again from puppy-accidents, it will be Too Soon. I still have a slight phobia of dogs, but I seem to be doing all right with this one. He's grown so much in the two weeks we've had him, it's weird. Also, I really want to wear some proper clothes again (read: clothes I like); having the dog necessitates looking after the dog, which brings me into close contact with skanky dog smell and being chewed and licked by the dog and cleaning up after the dog (ew, though not like that), so I've basically been wearing old, ripped, jeans and some variation on back-of-the-wardrobe, everything-else-is-in-my-suitcase-and-I-need-something-to-wear top, with a giant nasty sweatshirt. Mmm, fetching.

- I have just bought a student railcard (primarily because I'm bumming up for a St. Andrews Open Day in a couple of weeks, and staying with the delightful [profile] missfoxie, hurrah! but also because I plan to go see other people - Maddie, Loz, d'you fancy some Moog-time outside the OT3 gay-up? - during the summer, and, y'know, I'd quite like cheap train fares) and the photo on it makes me look like the undead.

- I just watched Sin City on the tellybox and have only got good praisings to say. :D Moog likes. Lots of voice-over/narration and heavily stylised. ftw!

- Am off to the cinema tomorrow with my mother: we don't actively want to see anything that's on, but we want to go to the cinema (dark, film, chocolate, non-dog-clothes. Yes plz). We're thinking about Son of Rambow, because if not, we're consigned to Awake or 10,000 BC (which I can't stop saying in the voice of Voiceover Dude, you know, like, TEN THOUSAND B.C.), so, er, Son of Rambow y/n?

Sleepy tiem nao. Zzzz.

OMG EXAMS make me want to cry. A lot.

...I WILL NEVER WANT TO UNDERSTAND TACITUS. HE IS SO BORING. THE SOLDIERS, THEY ARE UNHAPPY. A LOT.

TACITUS IS SO GODDAMN MONOTONOUS IT MAKES ME WANT TO BLEED FROM THE EYES.

And the only thing we do of him is the AS Unseens. (Although we did Nero & Agrippina at Latin Camp, which was quite interesting...)

What other author are you doing?

Er, we're not doing any other author until next year. Our teacher apparently had the option of giving us half Tacitus/half other thing this year and then both the second halves next year or dividing the two years into two separate authors; I'm kind of glad he did it this way, because at least next year there will be no Tacitus.

OH HAI SOLDURS, IS U B MOOTINIES?

(I have just done an unseen about Moses. Apparently Latin people spelt that Moyses. ???)

LOL MOYSES.

WHUT.

But yes, your Latin is DIFFERENT. :O:O:O:O *ahem* We do two authors this year and one next year, so I'm sort of drowning in Latin Literature right now.

Sooooooo...thinking about uni yet? My mum kinda forced it on me in October, but I'm glad she did. Going for Classical Studies methinks. :D

Maybe your two authors this year are the same length together as my godforsaken Tacitus?

Also, seeing as I've hardly been able to get in to college (blee), I've kind of been teaching myself the stupid Tactitus, which has not made it easier, believe me!

Yes, I'm thinking about uni. I'm off to a St. Andrews open day the week after next (and staying for a couple of days with the delightful [livejournal.com profile] missfoxie), and then I'm also looking into Edinburgh and Warwick. Apparently I also need one closer to home, in case I get ~*more ill*~, so possibly Leeds or Durham. I'm going to be doing a Classics course: anything that lets me take some Latin is all right by me! I was thinking about maybe doing a joint degree with some French in there too, but probably not (argh argh more oral exams what). (Oh, er, and I'm applying to Oxford as well, but I really, sincerly do not expect to get in).

Where are you thinking about going?

How much Tacitus ARE you doing? We're doing 6 Ovid poems and 23 paragraphs of Cicero.

I'm looking into UoL colleges, like Royal Holloway, UCL, and King's, as well as Warwick, Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham and Exeter (but I decided that Oxbridge really isn't for me) - I don't want to go TOO far from home. I've only visited Royal Holloway so far, but I loved it SO VERY MUCH, and I don't know if this is because I haven't seen any others or whether I've magically hit on the right place for me first time. :S We shall see!

Orals are HORRIBLE, which is partly why I'm dropping German at the end of Year 12. Are you going to drop any of your subjects?

SO MUCH TACITUS, OH MY GOD. We're doing Annals 1, chapters 16-49, which is roughly 33 long paragraphs, like, 20-odd lines each, except for the bits which SNEAKILY have two paragraphs to a chapter. It is so monotonous, it makes me want to cry.

Hee, see, my whole 'looking at universities' policy is IS IT FAR AWAY CAN I GO FAR AWAY. You will note that my four main choices are either SOUTH or NORTH (lol Scotland). Why Royal Halloway? What would you like to study?

I...am not going to drop any subjects, because I am clearly a gluton for punishment DD: Not looking forward to the French oral though. (OR THE DAY WITH THREE HOURS OF LATIN EXAMS IN A ROW WHAT - and then the following day I have all my Classics exams, so my brain will be a bit dead after all that).

:O ARGH your Tacitus scares the shit out of me!

Royal Holloway is pretty, fairly cheap accomodation, in the south (I like the south :P), gives you a lot of free money, and has an interesting-sounding Classical Studies course, which is what I want to do. Nottingham sounds good too, though, so I guess I really have to go look at everywhere more in-depth.

BLAH I'm not looking forward to my English exams, in which I KNOW NOT WHAT I AM SUPPOSED TO DO, or R.S. because I'm not sure I can actually write as much as they want in the time given. :S Latin'll be ok as long as I have time to learn it...

DURHAM.

DURHAM, NOT LEEDS.

You are a classy Durham person not a Leeds creature. (why yes I have issues with Leeds, but am v subtle about it, obv)

But DURHAM is too close to here! I agree that Durham is better than Leeds though, on that you are right.

You know what, I totally see that subtle issue. It's like when I asked you if you liked Creme Eggs, like, at Easter, in a completely separate email. Oh dear.

Edited because 'oh year' and 'oh dear' are not the same thing. D:

I don't think it's too close. You'll still not be living at home but would be close enough in case of emergencies etc. It won't seem close once you're there, not really. You'd be in your own little academic/individual college world.

Ah yes, MY SUBTLETY IS AS SUBTLE AS THIS CAPSLOCK.
