I fail at updating. I really, really do. I meant to do a big Sigourney Weaver picspam to say farewell for a week with. Then I didn't get round to it. Then I meant to do a big Ellen Ripley picspam to show why I fell for that character to say farewell for a week. Then it took ages to screencap just one of the Alien films. Instead, I present you with:

Reasons to Love Ellen Ripley: Weirdly sized pictures from Alien.

Ripley silly
Reason One: When looking for strange alien life forms that have previously been attached to a crew member's face and could be contagious or lethal, she still balances in precarious positions and looks very sweet.

Ripley AloneRipley Hides
Reason Two: When said alien life form drops on to her shoulder, Ripley screeches and throws herself to the floor, batting alien thing away. She seems freaked out but ok...until the male appears, throws himself in front of her and she decides that it might be a good idea to use him as a human shield. Note that she only seeks his protection after he offers it.

Ripley

Reason Three: She's pretty. Ok, it's shallow. But she's pretty.

Ripley Thinks

Reason Four: The whole of this scene. Ripley and three others are the only ones still alive. There is a fully grown and somewhat evil, green and goopy, alien running around the ship. Everyone with a higher station than her has been killed. She is now in control. And then the following exchange happens:

Ripley: Unless somebody has got a better idea...we'll proceed with Dallas' plan.
Lambert: What?! And end up like the others? No, you're out of your mind.
Ripley: You got a better idea?
Lambert: Yes. I say that we abandon the ship, we get the shuttle and just get the hell out of here. We take our chances...and just hope that somebody picks us up.
Ripley: [interrupting] Lambert. The shuttle won't take four.
Parker: I'm not drawing any straws. I'm for killing that goddamn thing right now.
Ripley: Ok. Well, let's talk about killing it. We know it's using the airshafts [Parker talks over her in the background] - Will you listen to me, Parker? SHUT UP!
Parker: [Quiet] Let's hear it.
Ripley: We know it's using the airshafts. [Parker interjects - "You don't know that"] That's the only way. We'll move in pairs, we'll go step-by-step and cut off every bulkhead and every vent until we have it cornered and then we'll blow it the fuck out into space. [To Parker] Is that acceptable to you?

How can you not love her?

Ripley Makes BOOM
Reason Five: Everyone else dies. She decides to get in the shuttle and blow up the main ship. Sadly, the alien gets in the way. She tries to turn off the self-destruct but is seconds too late. The ship will blow up in five minutes. Then, after being calmer than most people would be throughout all that, she shrieks and smashes the fuck out of everything. EVERYTHING. It's wonderful.

Ripley and Jones

Reason Six: She is ridiculously attached to the cat, Jones. She goes back for him when she is being hunted around a ship by an evil, killing alien and then when she thinks she is safe, she makes sure that he is all right before doing anything else. Aww.

Ripley Tiiiiny

Reason Seven: She thinks of plans to save her life again while wearing practically nothing. After blowing up the main ship and getting undressed to go sleepy-bye-byes in the cryogenic thing, she sees the alien curled up under a control panel in her shuttle. So she backs into a little cupboard wearing the smallest pair of pants in the world and a teeny tiny vest and then gets in a suit, and blows the alien out of the airlock while singing tunelessly.

And then some joyous rambling about books and the coming week:

I have books to take with me on holiday. Finally. I might write fic while there, if inspired. *crosses fingers*

The books I am taking are:

- "Fingersmith" by Sarah Waters
- "Where Do We Go From Here?" by Rosie Rushton
- The screenplays for "Friends and Crocodiles" and "Gideon's Daughter", both by Stephen Poliakoff.
- Sharon Osbourne's autobiography
- "The Talented Mr. Ripley" by Patricia Highsmith
- "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" by Louis Bernieres.
- 3 old film magazines I found in Oxfam
- "The Wah-Wah Diaries" by Richard E. Grant
- 'The Pact' by Jodie Picoult
- 'Needful Things' by Stephen King

Sadly, there is no internet in Bamburgh. This means I won't be around to comment or answer emails until a week on Saturday but I'll be thinking of you all! Think of me on Tuesday - Sigourney Day. Have a good week. *blows kisses*
