BSG Fic - Not-Idols and Admiration
Jul. 9th, 2006 07:20 pmMore BSG fic! This time we have Laura from Kara's point of view, so I'm a little less flaily about her. I don't know how well I caught Kara though but I don't worry about her so much.
Title: Not-Idols and Admiration
Rating: PG, some swearing. Nothing worse than the show.
Pairing(s): Kara/Laura mainly, implied Laura/Lee and Laura/Bill.
Word Count: 401
Disclaimer: Still not mine.
Summary: Kara Thrace isn't the kind of person that can idolise someone.
A/N: I quite like this. There's not enough Laura insight to make me panic but she's the centre of the fic. Kara is not bad to write. It might be a little pointless. Comments are fun, con-crit is welcomed. Un-beta-d. Hope you like!
Kara Thrace isn't the kind of person that can idolise someone. She can see people with a biased blinker on, no problem, but full-blown idolisation? Not a chance. It's the same for everyone; you're born, you live and either you frak that up or you don't. Then you die, and if you're lucky, the living is good and the dying is painless. It's the same for everyone, only some people frak up worse than others. There can be no idols because no-one is different enough to be worthy of that attention.
And Kara sticks to that. It's made a little harder when she meets Laura Roslin, President-Woman. Kara thinks this new woman will flounder, chalk and chastising are not the same as force and friction by any stretch. She's only mildly surprised when Laura turns out to be a pretty decent President, or at least good enough to wrap both Adamas round her little finger and quite probably a lot more of her too, if the way they look at her is anything to go by.
Kara watches her once, as Laura stands on the side of Galactica's deck. Laura is all smiles and steel, and Kara admires her for it, for not being easy to read. It's only admiration. What harm can that do?
Another time, Kara sees Laura descend a ladder, skirt a little higher to make movement easier and muscles taut in the backs of her legs. There's a fairly amusing moment where Laura's aide, who Kara doesn't know the name or age of and doesn't care to, shoots a dirty look at Lee Adama as the CAG tries to take Laura's hand. Laura either doesn't notice or pretends not to and Kara quite honestly can't tell the difference. She wonders if that's a good quality in a President. Laura walks the corridor unattended, tugging at her skirt a little. It's a little endearing. The aide rushes to her side, flustered, and Kara hangs back in the shadows, not-watching and not-feeling her heart pound. Laura doesn't see her. Maybe she does.
Kara might not be able to idolise but she can find no harm in admiring. After all, Laura is all smiles and steel and surprises and Kara thinks she might be worth the attention.
Again, comments = yaye. I hope you enjoy!
