Anyway, I was talking to twicetheheart31 in the comments of that last entry and I mentioned being shoved forcibly into a love of Dean/Castiel after reading a fic (when I was still only on s1 of the show, oh yeah, I am so smrt) by the author of one of my favourite Merlin fics ever but failed to provide the link to either of these two fics, because, idk, I am a fic-tease or something. And then, when I went to rectify this situation, I thought maybe others of you would appreciate one or both of those things, so here is an impromptu rec post! Who doesn't love an impromptu rec post? NO-ONE.

Author Summary: Arthur/Merlin. H/C. Arthur and Merlin survive.
Guys, this fic - it took me completely by surprise. I found it on one of those days where you are reading, like, a bazillionity fics all in the same fandom and the same sitting, and they all start to blur into one another and even though you're enjoying them all, your focus starts to wane a bit, so you're not really taking in a fic as much as you'd maybe want to do. And then - and then I sort of half-heartedly read the first part of this fic and stopped. And then I went back to the beginning and read the whole first part again, properly, before I finished it, and then I read the whole fic all over again when I finished it. It makes you ache and hold your breath. Read it.

- A Vague Memory of Wisdom:
Author Summary: Some demons-made-them-do-it. Set between 5x3 and 5x4, I think. This fic is less esoteric than the name suggests. But, and some of you would agree, thankfully a lot more porny.
Like I said, I read this fic without ever having actually seen Castiel in any episode, and without knowing anything really past, like, the first third of season 1 and I read it on the strength of that Merlin fic and out of wanting to see if Castiel was really as awesome as the internets had said (I was sceptical about this) - thinking that if he were, this fic would probably reflect that - and then I called my friend and went I JUST READ THIS DEAN/CASTIEL FIC AND I THINK WE MAY BE WRONG ABOUT ALL THE THINGS WE THOUGHT. It's atmospheric and the pace is completely, enviably perfect, and Dean is so very Dean that it hurts. It's so much more than a demons-made-them-do-it and yet it is a freaking brilliant demons-made-them-do-it. And it's hot.

Do let me know if you read them! It'll be like a book club but with fic. And more splamming.

Isn't SPN one of those fandoms that you mention you watch the show and then people sort of back away slowly? I mean, the impression I get is that a large part of SPN fandom is mental, like with Potter fandom. I have to say though, solely on personal experience, whenever I've spoken to a Potter/SPN person, they've been really lovely.

TODAY I MUST ACTUALLY PUT DOWN THE SPN FIC AND WRITE MOAR BIG BANG. THIS IS A GOAL. This was also my goal for yesterday, but although I sat down to be productive at about 1/2-ish in the afternoon, I didn't write a word of fic until about half 8. I did, however, clutch my laptop and weep at In the Silence Afterward, and then have to console myself by reading, er, more fic. WELL DONE, ME.

It's all about who you know. Yes, there are a lot of people who are completely batshit, and yes, I used to back away slowly. But eventually I learned that there are too many amazing fans to lump everyone into the crazy category. It's not quite fair to myself or to the sane ones. So by now I'm proud to be in the fandom and just assure myself that the crazy fans are just the loudest, you know? I've read that new fans are driven away from the show because of the rumors about the fandom, and that's really really sad.

I'm the same way when it comes to writing. XD Reading fic inspires me to write some, but then I get caught up in reading and my Word doc sits there woefully blank. Sigh.

I could never quite reconcile the rumours about the fandom with the people I actually knew, because they were all awesome (YOU ARE SO AWESOME). It brings me such joy! When I'm all caught up with s5, I might have to do a favourite episodes post. aakjsklajsfh it will be really difficult though.
