"But what are your thoughts on rocks?"
Feb. 6th, 2008 05:37 pmNumbered post time! This is the only way I can adequately convey a sense of order and meaning to a post which would otherwise just be disjointed and pointless. Hurrah?
1) That little box on the front page that tells you how long it's been since you last posted is mocking me, I swear to God. How has it been a month? That is impossible (well, er, except for the part where it has actually been a month but shhh logic).
2) I have now watched BSG season 3, after an inordinately long time of not doing so, and nnnnnngh, I really liked it. I actually prefered it to season 2: I am now a leper, I am aware of that. Here are some thoughts that turned out slightly longer than I was expecting:
LAURA WILL BE FINE. I am somewhat in denial.
Here are my Laura-hopes for season 4:
- she is perfectly healthy avec one big damn weepy scene, so that the television award people might actually pay some attention to Mary McDonnell
- she is a Super Cylon. If she were to be a cylon, I would want her to be a very important one. She is not plebian.
- MORE OF HER.
Also, I am torn between the desire to smack Lee upside the head for being a twat and quite liking him really. I think he did the right thing re: Baltar's trial, because someone on that ship needed to go 'hey, we can't shove him out the airlock just because we hate his greasy unwashed guts', but then, er, GET THE FRAK AWAY FOR LAURA.
Baltar's trial: I know he's guilty. They know he's guilty. But what evidence did they have, other than statements from people who weren't always with him and some underlying hatred because he's guilty? I understand that, y'know, HE'S GUILTY, but then, it is like he keeps insisting and it wasn't always his choice. He is a slimy nasty man though, and he does make bad choices, but I like him, I find him interesting, and I want him on my television. Also, anyone who can make Laura Roslin freak the very large hell out is welcome, as far as I'm concerned. More shouting Laura, yes!
On that line, is it just me, or was Laura, like, harsher than in previous seasons? I don't mean in the 'dude, way to harsh my buzz' way - nnngh, failure to express self here - but, er, I don't know, more direct? There was less 'I want to do this but I'm going to sugarcoat it a tad' and more 'KILL BALTAR, SNITS IN CIC, BILL SIT THE FRAK DOWN YOU STUPID STUPID MAN'. All of which I entirely approve ofbecause it's really really hot. More Laura in season 4, please.
Less Adama. Always less Adama. Take his face away. Although, I have to say that I really like the relationship between Adama and Roslin as portrayed, without actually liking or shipping Adama/Roslin, if that makes any sense?
Also over the course of season 3, I have come to realise that although I muchly like Ms. McDonnell of Awesome, it's mainly Laura Roslin that holds my affections. There's something about her that's just captivating, and powerful, and now I sound like a twonk, so I shall shut up and go over there.
When is season 4 around, does anybody know?

To conclude: LAURA ROSLIN = VERY VERY HOT. The end.
3) I've been spending some Christmas/birthday money recently. New acquisitions include BSG: Razor (which I have yet to see, so shhh your spoilers), Alias s3 and Labyrinth. I have somehow managed to exist for 17 years without seeing David Bowie as the Goblin King (awesomes!), and this must be hastily rectified.
4) ASHES TO ASHES. TOMORROW. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENE.
- Happy Jack is better Jack. Flirt, Jack, flirt!
- BARROWMAN SHOULD KISS MOAR MENS.
- I like Jack/Ianto a lot more this season, mainly because I like Ianto a lot more this season: more snark, less emo is a winning combination. Also: hott kissingz will do a lot to win me over.
- I still want to smack Gwen in her whiny petulant face. We get it: you're emotional. STOP TELLING US HOW YOU EMPATHIZE WITH PEOPLE/EMOTIONS/WALLS AND FUCK OFF. And she treats Rhys as someone to settle for rather than aim for, which is poo, because he is the most lovely man. He cooks. He accepts her stupid whiny temper tantrums and Secret Biznizing work. He's loooovely. Of course, this is where he is revealed to be a bastard tonight (please let this not be the case) and I am wrong forever.
- MOARSPIKE JAMES MARSTERS PLZ THX
Hey, I didn't say they were particularly erudite thoughts.- BARROWMAN SHOULD KISS MOAR MENS.

6) I've just finished reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and I feel completely justified in telling you all to GO AND READ IT NOW and begging those of you that have read it to say things about it to me. Must converse about shiny book. I heart Wednesday. Do you heart Wednesday?
7) I'm tired and I hurt and I feel sick, so my diet has consisted of sandwiches and other bland food products for about two weeks now, but I am damn well going to eat some Ben and Jerry's Half Baked, and I don't know whether I should watch Razor, Labyrinth or some Alias with it.

Date: 2008-02-06 06:31 pm (UTC)Does anyone else eat a whole carton/pint of ice-cream in one sitting or is it just me, oh dear.Maybe just a little. Also Jack/Ianto FTW! Actually, Jack FTW and Ianto FTW also. Ianto is so much less annoying now. Yay!
I read American Gods! Only it was the summer of 2003, which means I don't remember terribly much about it. Except there was a gay demon/godthingy in a taxi at one point. Clearly I remember all the worthwhile stuff!

hot gay kissingJack/Ianto that much more now that I don't want to kick Ianto.Hurrah for American Gods! I also enjoyed the gay demon/god-thingy: we are obviously both very highbrow ;)

Date: 2008-02-06 07:33 pm (UTC)3) When I was a kid I thought that "Labyrinth" was the scariest thing ever, lol. Whenever I see David Bowie I think of Tilda and visa verce
6) Neil Gaiman is AWESOME

Date: 2008-02-07 03:15 pm (UTC)3) It is terrifying how much Bowie and Tilda look alike. Have you seen that photoshoot where Tilda has been styled like him and they are basically the same person? I'm going to watch Labyrinth on Saturday. :DD
6) YES. Which books of his have you read? I'm looking for recommendations. I've read Stardust and American Gods, and I have Neverwhere lined up to read next.

Date: 2008-02-07 03:24 pm (UTC)3) Well, that is the picture that first made me realize that they look alike. It is SCARY. ... That movie is scary! ;)
6) I've only read "American Gods" and "Smoke & Mirrors", which is a book full of amazing short stories written by him. The best one is the one with the rebooting.

Date: 2008-02-08 06:09 pm (UTC)2) LAURA. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ I agree with every word you say here. And yes, she has definitely got a lot harsher. When I watched 'Dirty Hands', I actually sat there and said aloud "Wow, Laura. You're being such a bitch." T'was a little unnerving [though extremely hot]. Not anywhere near as terrifying as her screaming at Gaius. That bit was.......WOAH *hides behind sofa*.
6) I FUCKING LOVE 'AMERICAN GODS'. Seriously. One of my absolute fave books ever. It's just.....I have no words, just a worshipful, happy expression, a "Wow!" and flailing hands. Neil Gaiman is such an amazing writer (and a handsome, adorable and all-round luffly man). AG is my favourite Gaiman book, but I have also read Stardust, Neverwhere (you need to read that one), Anansi Boys and both his collections of short stories.
7) Never fear, I also eat entire tubs of ice-cream in one sitting. I haven't tried any B&Js Half-Baked yet, though have just discovered that their Caramel Chew-Chew ice-cream is heavenly. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
8) HURRAH! Is Jonathan Ross hosting it again? I'd really prefer the god among men known as Stephen Fry to do it, but his arm is all horribly broken.

Date: 2008-02-09 09:34 am (UTC)2) I KNOW. I spent so much of s3 going 'Wow, Laura. Someone got mean'.
And then flailing in giddiness because awesome. I heart nasty!Laura. I heart Laura. LAURA. Go Laura, shout more! Also, please have a weepy scene before the show ends forever.6) AMERICAN GODS OMG. I have, like, insane amounts of love for Wednesday. And Laura (AG Laura, as well as BSG Laura. Must be something about the name). And I wanted to move to Lakeside, except for the part where it's nowhere near anywhere and I would go a little bit insane, but, you know, the cold and the lake and the hot next-door neighbour are all very much for the win. I did think the end was a little bit exposition-y, kind of 'ps: this is the plot', but then there were still bits that wee picked up at the end and I had completely forgotten what they were referring back to, because I fail. In conclusion: ♥!
7) What's Caramel Chew-Chew like? You must try Half Baked, you really really must. Cookie dough, brownies and chocolate ice-cream. Go now.
8) BAFTAS TOMORROW :DDD I didn't know Le Fry had broken his arm - how did that happen? Is it worse than a normal break? IS THE LEADER OF OUR TIMES ALL RIGHT? I may have over-reacted a tad there.

Date: 2008-02-11 09:55 pm (UTC)7) Caramel Chew Chew is very very yummy. Very caramel-y but not sickly, it's creamy and there are chewy bits of caramel in the ice-cream and ooooooh. I want to try Half-Baked. Maybe next time I descend upon the Fantastic House of Moog, I shall buy us a tub to share. :)
8) I think he fell over whilst filming a tv documentary somewhere in America. It is a hideous break, whats called a spiral fracture [see the x-rays over here: http://stephenfry.com/blog/?p=38 ]. Mr God Among Men is alright thank goodness. (Did you know there is a Facebook group called something like 'Campaign to Harvest Stephen Fry's Sperm for the Betterment of Mankind"? LOL, but so TRUE, they should.)
