Mmmmmm, chocolates

Peeeeoples, I am making Christmas presents for my family and I have bought a box of Quality Street and a box of Roses to disperse amongst the hand-made items, and I need your opinions on the chocolates contained in these boxes, so, er, poll time![Poll #1089770]

No ticky boxes? I really like coffee creams but I think Roses might have got rid of them.

Also this poll makes no consideration for new pretenders to the Roses vs Quality Stret annual Christmas debate like Celebrations. What are your thoughts on Celebrations moog?

I like Celebrations also. Mmmm, Celebrations. Actually, I'm just a chocolate box whore. Any chocolate will do.

I also love coffee creams, but, yes, Roses have got rid of them (bastards! Ruining my chocolate pleasure!). However, Black Magics do a wonderful coffee cream. But not those new weird Black Magics in the big cube box. The old ones, in the cuboid shiny box.

OH GOD I WANT SOME CHOCOLATE NOW.

What are your thoughts on Celebrations? Or perhaps you prefer Cadbury's Heroes? (The chocolates, not the television show. Or maybe the television show as well, if Cadburys are branching out :D)

I prefer hard caramels to... things with nuts in? The one with the massive hazelnut in it is the only chocolate I probably actively avoid.

Really? Hard caramels > nuts? But hard caramels are chewy and they get stuck in your teeth and taste of nothing and bile at the same time. If after Christmas, you suddenly get a really large parcel in the post, it will be from me, containing all the skanky caramels (as I affectionately refer to them) from any chocolate boxes I may have been given this Yuletide season. I trust you won't mind.

Celebrations are okay but there's nothing that special about them. Ditto Cadbury's Heroes. I think I might marginally prefer Heroes but there's not that much to choose between the two.

Although now I am imagining Heroes chocolates and wondering what they would all be. For some reason I see Hiro as a Strawberry cream. I think Ando would be plain chocolate, good but often overlooked for something fancier. Nathan would have to be something smooth and sophisiticated- soft caramel? Maybe a dark chocolate mint cream? Peter would be something simialr to Nathan (obviously) but not quite as good. Like milk chocolate with a praline centre or something. You always think it's going to be better and more exciting thatn it actually is. Nicki would be nutty (hah, see what I did there?!) and maybe a hard toffee as well because even though nobody actually likes her she's always going to be around. And there always seem to be twice as many of them as everything else.

...I have not thought about this too much. At all. Really.

And yes now I want chocolate. I may have to go and see if we have any Custard Creams.

Your Heroes chocolate theories are brilliant. What about Claire? What would she be? And Mr. Bennett? I think maybe Claire would be one of those chippy orange things you can get, you know, where it's kind of praline-y but with orange crystal things, because, like, she's trying to be like everyone else (praline) but she's just different (being orange). Can't think of Mr. Bennett though. Any ideas?

I like the dark chocolate mint creme for Nathan very much. Would Peter then be a milk chocolate mint creme (you know, like the milk and dark After Eights, where dark is just better) or would he be just dark chocolate - made of the same stuff but lacking the essential oomph-factor?

Claire would have to be a bit like Nathan so maybe one of those milk chocolates with mint chips in them? Ooh or one of those Bendick's mint chocolates that are white and milk chocolate? I see Claire as a white chocolate type of girl for some reason.

I believe I share your thoughts on Peter, lol. Yes, trying to be as good as his older brother but somehow not quite living up to it. He would have a fancier wrapper too I'd imagine, whereas Nathan's would be more understated and elegant.

I have no idea what Mr Bennett would be. If the Heroes chocolates were in a box where they were unwrapped and you had to match them up with picutres of the chocolate itself then he'd be the chocolate that doesn't match any of the pictures and even though the chocolate itself looks perfectly innocent you don't quite trust it and nobody will touch it.

Yes, I believe Claire would suit white chocolate. Your Benedicks idea seems good. Oooh, I just thought, for D.L., would he be, like, a soft caramel? Because that gets everywhere when you bite into it, even into fingernails of fingers that didn't even touch the chocolate, so that kind of equals phasing through stuff? Or am I just a really un-neat (shut up, 'messy' is not the word I want at all) chocolate eater?

Who have we got left? Oooh, Ted, could he maybe be a strawberry creme? They're red (well, pink, but shh) and squidgy, and idk, maybe nuclear power translates to squidgy in chocolate form.
