baftas 2011 part five
Feb. 13th, 2011 10:13 pmFIVE FUCKING PARTS AND IT'S NOT EVEN TEN O'CLOCK YET. I think we can all agree that I have gone a bit wrong. When I read these things back I am going to criiiinge, what am I even talking about. NO-ONE KNOWS. The film about the Potter films is still going. Yes, okay, they're great, we get it. But seriously, did you see GoF? That one not so much.
The BAFTA is picked up by that producer whose name I always forget, JK Rowling, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. He pronounces "decade' weirdly. Inviting directors and producers up on stage. "they weren't any quicker shooting either". YES OKAY POTTER IS GREAT, CAN WE MOVE THIS ALONG? I HAVEN'T EATEN ANYTHING SINCE TWO PM AND THAT WAS EIGHT HOURS AGO AND I HAVE ANOTHER HOUR OF TYPING AHEAD OF ME. He's saying lovely things about JK Rowling. "we became a family of sorts and had an awful lot of fun". Oh my god he is the slowest speech-giver ever. NO DON'T CLAP AFTER THE NAME OF EVERYONE HE THANKS I WILL STARVE TO DEATH IF YOU KEEP DOING THIS.
Okay so I just tuned the end of his speech out but now he's thanking JK Rowling (who was hiding behind him - oh okay is this David Warner? Heyman? IDK HE WON'T STOP TALKING) for giving parents and children an intro to reading or smth. OH NOW JK IS SAYING SOMETHING. She's talking about being wary about putting Harry on screen at first and had to be persuaded. Thanking everyone, kept it short and sweet, I LOVE YOU JK ROWLING.
NEXT.
Lol Jonathan Ross: "take that, Twlight!"
Okay, next Best Film thing - Black Swan. I love this film and will not be swayed by naysayers. Everyone who comes to see it at work comes out like ??? DNW and I'm just like :OOOO every time. (that's shock, btw, not, idk, turning into a hoover). The last twenty minutes or so always blow me away, and I've seen it like five times now, thanks to working in a cinema.
Why aren't the BAFTAs shown live like the Oscars?
Anyway, next thing. Animated film! Presented by "beauty and the beast", Neve (Niamh?) Campell and Nicolas Hoult. WHY CAN'T I SPELL SURNAMES???
Animated Film:
- Toy Story 3 (is there any way this isn't going to win? did anyone not cry when they saw this?)
- How to Train Your Dragon (LOVELY)
- Despicable Me (SOBBING FOREVER, THIS WAS LOVELY TOOOOO. IT'S SO FLUFFYYYY.)
And the winner is.... Toy Story 3! OF COURSE. SOBBING FOREVER AND EVER. Lee Unkrich is accepting (I just looked up to read his name, I couldn't have produced it myself), talking about his heart pounding, thanking his cast and producers etc. He seems lovely. Thanking everyone at Disney and Pixar for trusting him to make a Toy Story film that's worthy of sitting alongside the first two WAIT WAIT SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN SHOTS OF ANDREW GARFIELD AND JESSE EISENBERG, THERE'S JESSE SITTING BEHIND ANDREW, UGH WHY DO I LOVE THEIR STUPID FACES SO MUUUUCH.
okay in the time it took me to spam out again, it's the next award.
Orange Rising Star Award (I voted for this!) presented by Tom Ford and Eva Green (UGH SHE IS SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL I CAN'T EVEN. LOOK AT HER FACE. LOOK AT HER HAIR. LOOK AT HER MOUTH. LOOK AT ALL THIS CAPSLOCK). Only award tonight voted for by the public. I KNOW, I VOTED.
- Tom Hardy (great, obviously, but, like, hasn't his star been rising for a while?)
- Gemma Arterton (again, hasn't her star been rising for ages now? This was sort of her year though. Idk, I have something of a disconnect with her acting. I loved Alice Creed, it was at our film festival.)
- Andrew Garfield (GUESS WHO I VOTED FOR. People say he's intuitive, likes to improvise, UGH THE LAPTOP SMASHING SCENE, SOBBING, oh god his acting makes me cry so much, it's like Paul Bettany all over again.)
- Emma Stone (FLAWLESS, I LOVE HER)
- Aaron Johnson (this just reminds me that I need to see Kick-Ass. We had that at our festival as well but I never got to see it.)
And the winner is..... Tom Hardy! OH LOOK AT ANDREW GARFIELD'S FACE, WHY CAN'T HE WIN THINGS. WHY DON'T YOU LOVE HIM. Although it looks like now Tom Hardy can "dream a little bigger". OH YES I DID.
Okay, in a totally classy way, I'm going to hit post while we look back at the people who have died this year. God, I am a terrible person. WE ALL KNEW THIS, SEE YOU IN A MINUTE.

Date: 2011-02-14 12:21 am (UTC)EVA GREEEEEN, I really do need to see The Dreamers. I think I'm going to HMV tomorrow (I WILL NEVER HAVE ANY MONEY EVER) so I shall look for it then! Why am I going to HMV? BECAUSE A CERTAIN FILM COMES OUT ON DVD TOMORROW. A CERTAIN FILM ABOUT A CERTAIN SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE STARRING CERTAIN ACTORS WHO FAIL AT BEING SUBTLE.
I love that the internet has like incepted you into liking Andrew and Jesse and also Andrew/Jesse. IT IS UNAVOIDABLE.

Date: 2011-02-14 12:30 am (UTC)YES YES GO TO HMV AND BUY IT. IF THEY HAVE IT. WHICH THEY'D BETTER. I think I want you to watch that even more than I want you to watch Young Adam. FAVOURITE FILM EVER.
Srsly though it has, like at first I had no interest at all and then on Tumblr I saw that quote from Jesse talking about getting the 'most scared as shit' award or whatever, and being like "They could have given me that just for my life," and then I was instantly curious because apparently neurotic socially awkward people are my Kryptonite. And then like, all the Andrew/Jesse stuff, I couldn't really ignore, because EVEN I CAN SEE THAT THEY ARE IN LOVE, AND I KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT THEM. So at least even if I don't get the movie, I get the RPS side of it.

Date: 2011-02-14 12:36 am (UTC)HMV HAD BETTER HAVE THE DREAMERS THIS TIME.
Jesse is I think my favourite ~celebrity~ just in terms of the fact that he's so open about all his anxiety issues and his ocd and things, and the way it's obvious it's not just, like, to make himself seem more quirky or whatever. Just. ALSO ANDREW/JESSE, IT IS LIKE THE LEAST SUBTLE THING IN THE WORLD. HAVE YOU SEEN THEM, UNIVERSE? LOOK AT THAT. And I think, if you get the RPS side of it, you must get the movie, and tbh, it is basically THE PLOT OF THE MOVIE, and, just. THEIR FACES. OH MY GOD. UGH WATCH THIS FILM SOON SO I CAN TELL YOU SPECIFICS.
